I actually read about something similar in a book called Organized for Success: Top Executives and CEOs Reveal the Organizing Principles That Helped Them Reach the Top. I've accomplished it at work, but fell behind in my personal email account. The idea is to keep your inbox EMPTY by processing it regularly. He references GTD a lot. It's a book called Getting Things Done.
